A Year Later – Let’s Get This Thing in Order

October 25th, 2009 No comments

ryanosullivan.ca has been my primary personal blog now for a year (Oct 25th, 2008 I installed word press on this domain) and it’s been really slow to come in to its own.

For a while I was using a theme that I really loved but it was out of date and wouldn’t work with many of wordpress’s bells and whistles. This limited my ability to add “cool shit” to the site and that hasn’t helped with my lack of inspiration to do much with this blog.

But enough of that – I’ve spent some time today trying to kick this blog back in to gear and if work doesn’t kill me first I’ll be making an effort to post here more often (and on adventuresoftaas.com as well!) – (Editor’s note: look, a blogger saying he’ll post more, how cute).

So welcome to ryanosullivan.ca year 2… I promise this year will be even more interesting then last, and that ain’t saying much…

Welcome to the New Site

As you’ve no doubt read over at rjoworld.com (my faithful blog location since 2000 (before there was such a thing as blogs) ) I have decided to break up my many interests between two new blog sites: ryanosullivan.ca (congrats – you found your way to at least one of em!) and adventuresoftaas.com.

I’ve been at a bit of a cross roads lately with rjoworld.com (as no doubt indicated by the total lack of posting). I want to write more about politics, I want to write more about the gaming business and actually playing games and I’ve also been trying to figure out how to get my personal thoughts on life and family down on blog-o-paper.

My solution was to break my blog in to two. ryanosullivan.ca for my personal, business and political thoughts (my serious side – har har) and adventuresoftaas.com for my gaming and games industry stuff.

I hope this also helps my friends, associates and family who I know read rjoworld.com and sometimes thought to themselves – what the hell does this possibly have to do with anything? Hopefully these changes help you find the bucket of my life that is most relevant to you and cater specifically to that need (or heck – even if you come to read about both parts of my life I hope this new system of blogging helps me get more focused).

So what happens to rjoworld.com? For the next few weeks it will be an archive for my previous posts. I hope by the end of November I’ve turned it in to an aggregator for both blogs and also a hub for the social networking services I use.

Viva La Revolucion or something.

New Host

February 18th, 2008 1 comment

RJOworld and my other sites are now all over on a new web host! Evan and I went ahead and purchased a virtual dedicated server together. From my end I wanted to get some dedicated resources for some new projects I am working on, particularly atvtrailfind.com which is about to launch in 2-4 weeks (depending on a few things) and I’m expecting a pretty decent level of traffic for the site.

Dreamhost has been a great host offering low cost hosting with tonnes of features but you definitely get what you pay for. As one of the largest webhosts on the tubes there are many site slow downs when other people hosted on your shared box spike traffic. Also application performance (in particular PHP and mySQL) can sometimes grind to a halt.

So its a brave new world with a dedicated box!

RJOWorld Is Now Milestone 4.1

August 19th, 2007 1 comment

Back in the spring I put together a Site Plan File with some details on things I wanted to add to the site. I didn’t stick to the time lines I had originally intended (ok, I neglect this site sometimes like a dead beat parent) but I’ve now pushed out most of the features I had intended for my first milestone! So RJOWorld is officially 4.1, not that that actually means anything to anyone but me who wants to keep this site moving along.

So enjoy.. and what not

Twitter Is Dead To Me. Enter Jaiku

June 9th, 2007 No comments

You observant folk have probably noticed I haven’t updated my Twitter in a while now… I have now switched fully to Jaiku for a few reasons. The number one reason being that most of my friends have now moved away from Twitter due to its technical issues (downtime, etc). I never really had an issue with Twitter but Jaiku does offer some cool features such as commenting on items.

Now we just need Dr Evan Sims Esq. to make a bridge between the two applications!

Off to get my hair cut now…

State of the Site and Site Owner

February 27th, 2007 No comments

Remember when I used to update this site on a regular basis? That was peachy wasn’t it? The best of times and what… Then I had to go get married, a full time job (that didn’t involve running my own show, blogging on the job is easy when you report to yourself) and a cat (a true indication that you have entered married life officially is when you get a cat, this has been scientifically proven, somewhere (maybe wikipedia? When is that place wrong?)). Truth be told though I really do miss working on this site more and I’m going to make an effort to be updating it more often…

With that said I’m working on adding some new content pages and updating the old ones (I’ve been using the same profile now for the last two versions of RJOWorld) so there will be some exciting times coming for my site’s three readers (by the way… how the hell does this site get 150-300 non-bot uniques a month… you are all sick people). Exciting times indeed!

So that’s the site… how and what am I doing?

Busy times here in O’Sullivan land. Work is going great, I’ve been taking on additional responsibilities at work (regional analyst stuff) which has been awesome and keeping me busy M-F 9-5. Outside of work we’ve been super busy with finishing up after the move. I believe it was 2 weekends ago now that we finally got the house almost completely unpacked. Now we just have a boat load of cleaning to do to get everything set up as we want it. That’ll be a long process but we are starting to make progress.

So.. expect more of the site… I’ll be starting to comment more on whats in the news, etc soon to keep things interesting :)

EDIT – I’ve added a site plan file. It lists things I want to add and gives me some focus :)

Neat New Feature For ATVing

February 25th, 2007 No comments

So my dad and I have been tooling around with our GPS trying to figure out a good way to show the places we’ve been. Enter the google maps api… I now will be adding mapping of the places we travel by ATV.

Also for your viewing pleasure I’ve added our two big trips from this past summer!
