Crossing the streams…
I’ve been working on redesigning & rethinking my various web presences (a few twitter feeds, a couple of blogs, various projects, hobbies, etc) and I wanted to pose a question to help me think through it.
A few years ago I tried to parse out a few parts of my online identity to create a few separate channels to speak to different parts of my life. The big split was moving my rjoworld blog in to two parts: ryanosullivan.ca (my serious face) and adventuresoftaas.com (my gaming blog). There are matching twitter accounts and other social presences to support these as well. What’s ended up happening is that I’ve neglected different pieces of my online presence and things feel pretty disjointed at this point.
I’m starting to think it might be time to bring it back together. The original idea was that I wanted (or perceived my audience wanted) to not have me talk about gaming or my other hobbies when they were looking for something say business related.
So … should I cross the streams?
I’ve sort of gotten to the point that I’m comfortable with the fact that on one hand I’m a fairly successful person in the business world who has things he wants to share while I’m also a guild master and a gamer who has things to say about that world as well. Having a separation has only led me to not want to maintain my presence on either side. It’s just made it clunky and difficult for me to feel inspired when wanting to write or share things on any of my interests.
What do you guys think? You are reading this so I’m concerned about how you feel about it. So?
