They say you can tell a lot about a person by what apps they have on their first tab… So here’s me:

Upgrading from iPhone 3.* to iOS 4.0 has reduced the number of page tabs for apps I have from 7 to 3. The folders system is brilliant and a real joy to use.
So my apps:
- Twitter :: Obvious. I’m tempted to add this to my bottom bar
- IM+ :: Instant Messaging with Push notifications. I use MSN, Skype, AIM, and ICQ
- Messages :: Obvious
- Calendar :: Since syncing with Exchange at work this has become a key piece of my iPhone use
- Maps :: Obvious
- Games (folder)

- Contacts :: Obvious
- YouTube :: I don’t use this as much I would expect, but it’s good on long bus rides
- WeatherEye :: My favorite weather app
- CIBC :: Mobile banking, it is a great piece of business
- Evernote :: I still haven’t managed to get Evernote in my day to day workflow… I do use it occasionally but not near as much as I’d like
- Facebook :: Good for keeping in touch – also if friends have entered their phone number you can use your friends list to make calls – can be very handy
- Kobo :: I do most of my reading on my Sony Reader but when I’m on the go I like having my library (which is 90% kobo sourced) in my pocket
- Foursquare :: While I wanted Gowalla to win the check-in war it didn’t pan out that way amongst my social group so 4sq it is
- Calculator :: Yep
- Geocaching :: I had two games on my home screen previously so when I put together my main games folder I got a slot on the main page back. Geocaching won out. I’ve been using this to find caches while I on the road and I’ve been doing a lot more caching…
There it be… what’s your main page look like?
The new version of Apple’s iOS (the new name for the iPad/iPhone/iPod operating system) went live this afternoon and I rushed home to get it… sadly I am now looking at “Backing up…” screen and have been for almost an hour now…
It seems like this is not an uncommon issue so I’m just patiently waiting taking in as many reviews and bits and pieces of info as I can on the upgrade while I wait.
Things I’m looking most forward to:
- Folders – some argue this should have been a day one feature of the post-app era iPhones (and I agree to an extent) but I’m just glad it is here now
- Spell checking through out the OS – I type at about 140 or so WPM and I can assure you I type faster than I think most of the time. The result of this has always been a trade off in the spelling department
- Upgraded Mail Client – Unified inbox anyone?
- Apparently the upgrade has a tonne of polish and who would turn down some polish?
Now all I need to do is hope this actually works… The upgrade is going.so.slowwwww
I’ve been neglecting this blog quite a bit lately BUT there is a good reason for it!
So what’s going on.
Moving – We are moving in to a three bedroom town house (in the same area) because of foundation problems in our old place. With me being a gimp post-surgery its been tough going for Tammy who’s had to really step up and take the lead on the move. We’ve had great help from my Dad (with an assist for my sister Jess and my mom who’ve been watching Paige quite a bit for us), our neighbour Chandler and family friend Scott. These guys have really helped us out with the heavy lifting and I really appreciate it – thanks guys.
The new place is REALLY nice. Because we got screwed over and forced to move out of our old place we put a lot of pressure on the management company to really fix this place up and we ended up with a nicely renovated place as well as having our central air moved over. So we’ve come out of this alright. Tired, very very tired, but alright.
iPhone – So I finally managed to convince Tammy to let me get an iPhone
 This thing seriously kicks ass and I’ll have a full review up when I get a chance to sit down (maybe this weekend when I finally get to kick my feet up and take it easy). But to say this totally changes your phone experience is the understatement of the century. This is Cellphone 2.0 and all previous cell phones are alpha products.
Back at Work – So I’ve been back at work for two weeks now. I’ve been trying to take it easy (a lot of shortened days as I ease back in to things) and its been a pretty smooth transition. I’ve had meetings wall to wall pretty much every day since I’ve been back and I’ve been having a tough time staying productive. Hopefully the meetings will slow down next week and I can actually start getting ahead with work again. I have three major projects on the go at the moment so its a very fast paced time at work.
Recovery wise I’ve been more or less ok back at work. I’ve had to take a few days off and work from home but all and all its been not bad. The biggest issue I’ve run into is my hamstring is tightening because of all the sitting. I’m going to have work really hard against it because this could impact the way I walk for the rest of my life.
So there it is. I’m super busy, I’m sorry I haven’t made more updates, etc, etc.
(OH YES – I got into the Warhammer Online beta and when the NDA comes down I’ll have a lot to say (all of it good))
Today at WWDC Steve Job’s announced that 22 countries would be getting the new 3G iPhone come July 11th. I frantically hit rogers.com (who I already knew was getting the iPhone) and apple.ca to see if Canada was one of the lucky countries. They were a bit behind the ball but eventually apple.ca was updated and confirmed it!
The official announcement reads:
Rogers Communications and Apple® today announced that the highly anticipated iPhone⢠3G will be available in Canada on July 11. iPhone 3G combines all the revolutionary features of iPhone with 3G networking that is twice as fast* as the first generation iPhone, built-in GPS for expanded location based mobile services, and iPhone 2.0 software which includes support for Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync and runs the hundreds of third party applications already built with the recently released iPhone SDK.
All I can say is I am super excited! I am trying to convince Tammy to get us both one of these and drop our home phone service. Who needs it anyway! Bring on July!
